Cindy Hyde-Smith’s campaign releases statement as Senate race remains undecided

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Incumbent U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith’s campaign has released the following statement as the Senate race between Democratic challenger Scott Colom and Hyde-Smith remains undecided.

As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, Colom held a razor-thin lead of just 43 votes out of more than 925,000 cast — leading Hyde-Smith 462,821 to 462,778 with an estimated 95.6% of ballots tabulated. Independent candidate Ty Pinkins garnered 19,935 votes.

Tuesday night, Smith voiced confidence in keeping her seat, saying “the Democrats got out and worked,” but that there “wasn’t enough of them.”
