JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) — A former Jones County deputy chancery clerk has pleaded guilty to three counts of altering records after investigators say she changed bank statements to conceal more than $13,000 in public funds she converted for personal use.

State Auditor Shad White announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, that Christy Hodge pleaded guilty to three counts of Alteration of Records.

According to the State Auditor’s Office, Hodge altered and submitted bank statements between June 2025 and August 2025 to conceal $13,356.89 in public money she had converted for her personal use.

The money was later recovered and deposited into the appropriate county depository, according to the auditor’s office.

Hodge was sentenced to three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, followed by two years of probation. She was also ordered to pay $1,927.50 in fines and fees.

“Protecting taxpayer dollars is our office’s top priority. We will continue to do everything we can to prevent criminals from profiting off of taxpayer dollars,” White said.

The State Auditor’s Office encourages anyone who suspects fraud involving public funds to report it through its website at osa.ms.gov or by calling 1-800-321-1275 during normal business hours.
