ITTA BENA, Miss. (WLBT) - Mississippi Valley State has announced the school’s next head men’s basketball coach.

On Wednesday, Mike Davis was chosen as the 13th head coach of the Mississippi Valley State men’s basketball program.

“I am honored and excited to lead Mississippi Valley State’s men’s basketball program,” said Davis. “This is a proud program with a strong tradition, and I look forward to building a culture of discipline, toughness, and success. Our goal is to compete for championships and represent this university with pride.”

Davis is an experienced leader with previous head coaching positions at Indiana and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

He also has previous SWAC experience when he was the coach at Texas Southern, and has most recently been an assistant coach at Memphis from 2024 to 2026.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Davis to Mississippi Valley State University,” said Dr. Shields-Gadson. “His experience, leadership, and championship pedigree make him the right person to lead our men’s basketball program into a new era. He understands what it takes to win at a high level and develop student-athletes both on and off the court.”

The Delta Devils will look to get back to winning ways, having won their last SWAC Championship in 2012, and finishing last in the SWAC for the past seven consecutive seasons.
