PARIS (WLBT) - Former Mississippi State thrower Anderson Peters needed just a single throw to qualify for the Olympic javelin finals Tuesday.

Peters, a Grenada native, threw 88.63m on his first and only attempt of the day, which easily surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 84.00m.

Peters’ throw, which was the second-longest of the qualifying round, behind India’s Neeraj Chopra throw of 89.34, qualifies him for the javelin final Thursday at 1:25 p.m. CT.

Fellow former Bulldog Curtis Thompson also competed in the javelin qualifying round. Thompson’s longest throw of qualifying was 76.79m, which was not long enough to qualify for the finals.
