(CNN) – It looks like the human factor can’t be undervalued, because artificial intelligence can’t be counted on yet to take your order for a Big Mac.

McDonald’s announced it is pulling the plug on its AI-powered ordering technology.

The problem is that the technology isn’t reliable at recognizing some accents. It also can’t always distinguish voices from background noise.

McDonald’s rolled out the tech at more than 100 drive-thrus as part of a deal with IBM.

McDonald’s said it is still working with the tech giant and hopes to have a better AI ordering system to test by the end of this year.

Fast food chains like Wendy’s and White Castle have also experimented with AI-powered ordering.
