Former Lt. Governor Evelyn Gandy Laid to Rest
Friends and family said their final goodbyes to former Lt. Governor Evelyn Gandy Friday morning.
The service was held in downtown Hattiesburg at Main Street United Methodist Church for the woman known as a steel magnolia.
Gandy was praised as a woman who broke barriers in Mississippi politics, leaving a legacy in public service.
As the first woman elected to three state wide offices, friends and colleagues of gandy say she's a woman who will be dearly missed.
"She participated in state government over her whole career on the basis as how she could best serve the people of Mississippi. She had no motives other than public service. I never knew anyone in my whole career that I had a higher regard for the people of Mississippi owe her an eternal debt for the contributions she made to this state," said Former Governor, William Winter.
The graveside service for Gandy had to be canceled due to the threat of bad weather, but she will be buried at Roseland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.
