Hugh A. Barkley , Executive Director, (601) 899-5880 STEVE FORD , SON OF PRESIDENT FORD , FEATURED SPEAKER AT THE 57 TH ANNUAL MEETING.

On Tuesday, March 7, 2006 , the National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence of Central MS Area, Inc., will host its 57 th Annual Meeting at the Coliseum/Regency Hotel & Convention Center, located at 400 Greymont Avenue in Jackson .

The keynote speaker for this year's annual event will be Steve Ford , son of former President Gerald and Betty Ford .

Eleven years ago in 1995, Steve Ford was at the height of his acting career. He had completed seven (7) years on the Emmy Award-winning show, "The Young and the Restless", as well as acting in over 20 major movies. To name a few, "Contact" with Jodie Foster and "When Harry Met Sally " as Meg Ryan 's Boyfriend. However, disaster struck Steve 's life. Everything looked great on the outside, but inside Steve was battling the results of a few bad choices. He realized he was facing alcohol addiction in his own life. One would think the son of former First Lady Betty Ford would have been aware if his situation since the Ford family had participated in their mother's successful intervention over 25 years ago. Out of that intervention would come the famous, non-profit Betty Ford Center which has served over 65,000 people in need of help with alcohol and drug addiction problems.

Steve Ford will share his story how he took the worst moment of his life and turned it into the best. Steve can walk an audience through the early habits and mistakes he made that lead to his own alcoholism. Then, with his inspirational stories, he can walk them out the other side toward a sober, successful and alcohol-free life.

In addition to Steve Ford 's March 7 th presentation, there will be a silent auction at 6:00 p.m. , prior to the Annual NCADD Meeting at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend both of these events. Tickets are $12.00 per person in advance and $15.00 at the door.

If you would like to make a contribution or to purchase tickets to the event, send check to NCADD or make a credit card payment by phone, please contact Ladona Anderson at the NCADD office in Jackson .
