JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Camp season continues around the Sip. I swung by Jackson State Thursday morning. New women's basketball coach Tomekia Reed hosted the three-day Fundamentals Camp.
Kids ages 8 through 18 got to learn the basics of the game. Plenty of smiles for Coach Reed about camp and her 1st offseason leading the Lady Tigers.
"Our first camp was awesome. This is a great opportunity for us to get with our players here in the state. We had players to travel from Georgia to come to our camp. It was really exciting. Players learned a lot in these 3 days, and that's what it's all about. Right now we're just trying to build a culture. We're trying to teach our players the fundamentals of the game. We've put in our offense, put in our defense, and just getting our players acclimated with me and my style of coaching. We have a really good core coming in and we have great recruits coming in as well. An All-American from Velma Jackson who led the country in scoring at the junior college level."
