JACKSON, Miss (AP) - Former state Rep. Chuck Espy will be the next mayor of Clarksdale - a job once held by his father.
Espy unseated one-term Mayor Bill Luckett in Tuesday's Democratic primary runoff. Because he is unopposed in the June 6 general election, Espy begins the new term July 1.
News outlets report that uncertified results in Starkville show the city's former chief administrative officer, Lynn Spruill, narrowly defeated Johnny Moore, after affidavit votes were counted Wednesday. The winner will become mayor.
In Bay St. Louis, City Councilman Mike Favre defeated two-term Mayor Les Fillingame in the Democratic runoff. Favre faces Republican Jeff Harding in June.
First-term Canton Mayor Arnel Bolden was defeated by former Mayor William Truly in the Democratic primary runoff. Truly faces Republican Charles "Chip" Matthews in June.
