JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - It's been a year now since zoning was approved for the proposed development on the Colonial Country Club property.
The property owners want to construct a mixed use housing and commercial development to be called Colonial Highlands. It would include everything from condominiums to traditional big lot homes, and a few stores.
James Peden an attorney for the property owners said, "Now in process of contacting builders and developers who might be interested in developing a particular phase."
Attorney James Peden represents the land owners. The 153 acre site will include 635 homes.
"We envision there will be a grocery store, we envision there may be a restaurant there. Our marketing studies show there is very much a demand for this type of development in Jackson," said Peden.
Developers hope to attract young professionals to Colonial Highlands. Residents in the area say they will be glad see good use put to the closed country club.

All phases of the development could take 9 years to complete. Developers are cautiously optimistic they can begin the first phase near the end of the year.
