JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Every week during December Miskelly's is giving away furniture to families in need. It's called A Season of Giving, and families are nominated for the gifts, by others in the community.
Tonight's winner is a woman who has faced many hardships... but still finds ways to give to others.
"I am thrilled," said Christine Norwood. "I've always thought of this happening to other people but to have it happening to me, oooh gosh, it's a blessing".
When Christine Norwood woke up Monday morning, her home was practically empty. But before long, a Miskelly's truck pulled up and piece by piece her house became a home.
"The only thing I was ever asked was how many bedrooms in your house," added Norwood. That was the only thing I was ever asked; nothing to find, anything else."
Norwood was nominated for Miskelly's Season of Giving because of her own giving spirit. She's active, not only in her community, but also in her church, always encouraging the youth.
Like Ricky Douglas, who is now an associate minister at the church. He remembers Norwood from when he was young and knows the hardships she faces now.
She's battling cancer," said Douglas. "Her home burned down on July 4th of this year and she has custody of three of her Grandchildren.
As Norwood watched her new living room furniture arrive.. and the new bedroom furniture...not just for her...but also for her grandchildren being set up, it was hard for her to hold back the tears.
I don't know how to thank everybody. It's a blessing, it is truly a blessing," added Norwood. "I had nothing in here this morning, and now the house is fully furnished, thanks to Miskelly's".
A blessing to a woman who for years has given so unselfishly to those in her life.
