HAZLEHURST, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Crews from across Copiah County battled a blaze at the Isaac Newton Ellis House Saturday evening.
Fire units were called to the historic Ellis House, located at 258 South Extension Street in Hazlehurst.
Deputy Emergency Management Director, Rick Stevens said, "We don't know what caused the fire, but it is a total loss. There was an adjoining structure near the home, maybe a garage or storage unit, that is also a total loss".
Stevens said no one was at home during the fire and everyone has been accounted for.
Stevens also said the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, built in 1890, the house was 125-years-old.
Officials tell us the fire is now under control.
