KOSCIUSKO, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The skeletal remains found earlier this month in Attala County have been identified as 14-year-old Mykendrionia 'Mimi" Lewis.

Attala County Sheriff Tim Nail says the medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide.

He says the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

She was last seen walking down Peeler Street in Kosciusko, May 26, five months ago.

Lewis was identified through DNA analysis.

Her remains were found by hunters on County Road 5201 earlier this month.

Sheriff Nail says his office has been working with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to solve this case.
