JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Teenagers looking for positive way to expand their minds and learn from professionals this summer found the answer Tuesday at the Jackson Medical Mall.

Youth Solutions held its monthly encounter program for teens interested in getting a head start on career building.

Gospel rap artist Phenom performed during the rally.

Teens also participated in exercises that helped new members break the ice by meeting each other and developing lines of communication.

Those attending learn life skills, character building and tools needed to find jobs and career resources.

Eighteen-year-old Tre Williams just graduated and wants to major in criminal just in college.

Friends told them about the positive experiences they've had with the organization.

"I wanted to come because I heard about it. It's been inspiring a lot of teens, and I just wanted to take part in it. I'm interested in getting a mentor, getting on the right track, because I'm about to be going to college," said Williams.

"When you come to this teen rally, you can sign up for our mentorship program which we pair teens up with career coaches, and they expose kids to their careers while helping them to attain a few of their own personal goals," said Youth Solutions founder Juan Wilson.

It was organized in 2007 and meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Organizers said more than 300 teens in the Jackson metro area participate.
