Secretary of state will address unfavorable comments about Mississippi

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Mississippi's Secretary of State, Delbert  Hosemann will have a press conference in the State Capitol Rotunda at 10 A.M. Tuesday morning.

He'll address a recent comment that many say negatively reflects the state of Mississippi. The comment was allegedly posted on a Department of Justice employee's Facebook page.

Last week WLBT reported that a blogger from PJ Media posted a comment on the blog from a woman named Stephanie Celandine Gyamfi's Facebook page. The comment allegedly posted by Gyamfi read "Disgusting and shameful. Hey, that should replace the state motto...Mississippi, disgusting and shameful...forget the Magnolia State motto."

The post was written in response to the controversial voter I.D. legislation passing through the state legislature. Some conservative politicians say Gyamfi's alleged comment could hinder legislation like Voter I.D. and redistricting from receiving Department of Justice approval.

According to the Department of Justice website, Gyamfi is one of the people responsible for reviewing whether voting changes meet requirements of section five of the voting rights act.
