Lamar County gets MDEQ grant

PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - Lamar County has received a $21,752 grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality that will be used by the county for white goods collection.

Trudy D. Fisher, MDEQ executive director, says the Solid Waste Assistance Grants support a variety of useful solid waste management activities for cities and counties. He says this grant will assist the efforts of Lamar County in improving their management of solid waste.

MDEQ grants can be used for programs to prevent/ clean up unauthorized dumps; hire local solid waste enforcement officers; educate the public about solid waste disposal and recycling; and establish programs for the collection of white goods, bulky wastes and recyclables.
