JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Sears has released the list of stores it will be closing in coming months and three Mississippi stores, including the one at the Metrocenter, are on that list.
Stores in Columbus and McComb are also on the list.
The list was posted on a Sears website today, and lists 79 of the 100-120 stores closing. Both Sears stores and K-Marts are on that list.
Sears announced last week that it would be closing the about 100 stores after a disastrous holiday shopping season.
Sears stock dropped 27% when the announcement was made December 27th.
The stores are being closed so that the parent company can offset expenses in a difficult economy.
The news comes as the latest blow to the Metrocenter Mall which was once a bustling shopping destination.
But in recent years, the mall lost most of its major-name stores.
In December 2010, Metrocenter barely avoided foreclosure after falling behind on mortgage payments.
