JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - A health care worker from north Mississippi has been arrested for sexual battery of a vulnerable person.

Tammie Shantay Gates, 32, of Okolona turned herself over to investigators with the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit June 17 in Copiah County.

A Copiah County Grand Jury indictment alleges Gates had sex with a 17-year-old resident of Millcreek of Pontotoc, a psychiatric residential treatment center, where she was employed as a psychiatric assistant.

The encounter took place while the victim was visiting relatives in Crystal Springs on or about July 31, 2009.

Bond for Gates was set at $20,000 dollars. She is scheduled to go on trial July 26th.

If convicted, Gates faces up to 30 years behind bars.
