Jackson man arrested in Ridgeland murder
RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - Friday morning 35-year-old Robert Earl Harvey of Jackson was in Ridgeland Police custody charged with capital murder in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Carmen Sanders. Harvey was not hard to find because he was already behind bars at the Hinds County Detention Center.
"He was being held at Hinds County on larceny charges. We know from looking at his criminal history that he has served time in prison before for some similar type crimes," said Ridgeland Police Lt. John Neal.
One week ago, Sanders was found dead in her Pinebrook Apartment on Pine Knoll Drive. Sanders had been stabbed numerous times.
"It's obviously a crime of passion. We felt like the way the crime scene was laid out, without giving any details, it was an indication that somebody was in the apartment that she was comfortable being with," said Lt. Neal.
Ridgeland Police believe that person was Harvey. Electronics were taken from Sanders apartment. Investigators said some people tipped off police that Harvey was trying to sell those items.
"When we interviewed several of our witnesses, people that were close to Carmen and this Mr. Harvey's name did come up. We knew he was an acquaintance of hers, but we're not sure how close of a relationship that he had from her."
So far police have not established a motive. Harvey is being held at the Madison County Detention Center. A bond hearing is set for Tuesday.
