Judge puts closure of Canton charter school on hold

CANTON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Hinds County chancery judge has granted a temporary restraining order for SR-1 College Preparatory and STEM Academy in Canton, putting the state’s move to close the charter school on hold for now.

Last week, the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board voted to close SR-1, citing low academic performance and problems with fiscal management.

The school’s president said the court will review whether that vote was valid at a later hearing. Families are set to meet later this week to hear what comes next.
