16-year-old from Bolton High School’s football team dies from severe heat stroke, family says
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - After fighting for his life in the hospital, 16-year-old Joshua Henderson passed away Sunday afternoon, according to his family.
Joshua’s mother reported that he passed out on the football field at Bolton High School on Monday, July 7.
He was rushed to Le Bonheur to receive treatment for a heat-related illness.
The family confirmed on Sunday that his cause of death was organ failure caused by a severe heat stroke.
“Josh was only 16 years old, full of life, laughter, and promise. He was deeply loved by his parents, siblings, extended family, and all who knew him. His sudden loss has left our hearts shattered and our world forever changed,” the family said.
MSCS released a statement on Henderson’s passing.

He was not only an exceptional athlete and dedicated scholar, but also a source of light and joy to all who knew him. His kindness, determination, and positive spirit left a lasting impression on classmates, teachers, and our entire BHS community.
