On July 23, the jury found Tyler Hammond and Meko Lamar guilty of felony fleeing in concert with injury and felony in concert with death.

The investigators reported that on March 6, 2022, Hammond and Lamar were drag racing on West Jackson Avenue. After crashing into the woman’s vehicle, they both fled the scene.

“This was a heartbreaking case, and our thoughts remain with the victim and her family,” said Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen. “Our officers worked this scene with precision and care from the very beginning. That thoroughness made all the difference. It’s a reminder that what we do in those first moments—how we document, how we observe, how we follow through—can ultimately bring justice to victims.”
