Two arrested after stealing $10,000 of copper wire in Mississippi
CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - Two people have been arrested after around $10,000 worth of AT&T internet copper wires were cut and stolen in Mississippi.
According to Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten, deputies were dispatched to Powlett Road in the county around 11 a.m. on Friday. Sheriff Patten said it was the second time since April 15 that copper wire was stolen from the location.
The lines cut and stolen took out internet service to the airport and FAA both times, Sheriff Patten said.
After the suspects, 41-year-old Joshua Peebles and 35-year-old Tiffany Vickers, left Powlett Road with around 143 feet of stolen “DSL Internet Lines,” Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey and Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Good were both contacted by Adams County for assistance.
All three agencies tracked down Peebles and Vickers on MS Highway 547 in Claiborne County, where the two were then taken into custody.
Both suspects were transported to the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office where they were interviewed by Sheriff Edward Good and confessed to stealing the internet lines on Friday and on April 15 in Adams County. Law enforcement officers recovered the stolen internet lines along with the tools used to cut the line.
Peebles and Vickers have been charged with felony possession of stolen property in Claiborne County as well as one count of grand larceny and one count of larceny each in Adams County. More charges may be pending.
“I would personally like to thank Sheriff James Bailey, Sheriff Edward Good, and their staff for their prompt assistance with this matter. Without them, the ACSO deputies’ quick response, and Dispatch Supervisor Annette Fells for the excellent job dispatching during this incident, these suspects may have continued on their criminal path of destruction,” Patten said.
