JACKSON, Miss. (MISSISSIPPI WEEKEND) -
If we’re talking food in Mississippi, vegan cuisine might not be the first thing that comes to mind.
But these spots across the metro will have you coming in to order, even when you’re not on a diet!
Oops All Vegan | 4409 North State Street , Jackson
Oops All Vegan sells some of your favorite guilty pleasures. I’m talking about Philly cheesesteaks, loaded nachos, burgers and even cheese fries. And the best part is they’re all meatless! This business started as a food truck, and opened their brick and mortar this year. With jackfruit nachos, burrito bowls, and more - Oops All Vegan is the perfect introduction to vegan food. They’ll make you forget you’re missing the meat.
Meals that Heal | 612 N Farish St, Jackson
Meals that Heal is a 100% plant based café in Jackson owned by husband and wife duo Eric, and Yasmine Collins. The couple plus their son Eric Jr are known as the plant based family. Their mission is to help heal your mind, body, and soul with products that engage all of your senses. The plant based family runs Meals that Heal with the help of Professor Detrice. Some of their most popular dishes are pecan spaghetti, creole greens, and coconut creamed corn. And you can’t pass up their Taco Tuesday with jackfruit, veggie, pecan, or walnut as the “meat”.
Meals that Heal offers daily specials handmade with veggies, fruits, nuts, and grain. While you’re there, be sure to try one of EJ’s lemonAYDE!
Aladdin | 730 Lakeland Dr, Jackson
Anytime I’m at Aladdin, it’s all about the Chicken Sharma. But this Mediterranean restaurant has a ton of meatless options that stand on their own. Some of those items include fresh hummus, vegetable grape leaves, falafel, veggie burgers, and more!
If you love their food, the next step is to try to incorporate some of those flavors in your own kitchen. Aladdin’s Mediterranean grocery store is right behind the restaurant.
Keifer’s Downtown | 120 North Congress Street, Jackson
Keifer’s has been serving Downtown Jackson since 1981. Their wide range of salads and fresh hummus are the perfect vegan option with a lot of flavor!
Sambou’s African Kitchen | 1625 E. County Line Rd, Jackson
Sambou’s opened this year after owner Joseph Sambou was inspired to represent Africa through food when he realized there was a void in that type of cuisine here in Mississippi. Many of their daily specials can be made with vegetable options, and their sides like couscous, stir-fry cabbage, fufu balls are vegan friendly!
Kebab and Curry | 160 Weisenberger Road, Madison
Chef Jeetender Anand has more than 30 years of experience cooking Indian cuisine. Kebab and Curry offers classic dishes like samosas, aloo tiki, and lentil soup. You can also expect a huge range when it comes to vegetable dishes and curries.
Apolos | 4500 Interstate 55 North Suite 174, Jackson
Apolos is largely inspired by Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern cuisine. They’ve got you covered with vegan options for each course. Start off with hummus, or a falafel, then fill up with your choice of a salad, veggie burger, Apolos classic wrap, and other combinations like rice bowls, or roasted veggies.
