LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - After five days on the run, a convicted killer serving life in prison who escaped a Las Vegas correctional facility has been captured.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says Porfirio Duarte-Herrera was taken into custody early Thursday without incident after they received information that a person matched the description of the escaped convict.

Officers then identified the man as Duarte-Herrera and placed him under arrest, KVVU reports.

Duarte-Herrera is serving a life sentence for murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He was convicted in 2010 for causing an explosion on the top level of the Luxor parking garage. The explosion resulted in the death of a man who was hit by shrapnel.

Federal authorities announced Wednesday they would offer $30,000 for the capture of the inmate.

Duarte-Herrera reportedly used battery acid to erode the window seal leading him out of his cell at Southern Desert Correctional Center. A union president told KVVU, before leaving the cell, the Luxor bombing suspect set up a dummy to throw off facility staff.

Police have not released any information on how Duarte-Herrera was spotted leading to his arrest.
