JACKSON, Miss. (MISSISSIPPI WEEKEND) -
No matter how you brew it, beer is always going to be my drink of choice! And I’m not alone. According to nationalcalendar.com, beer is the most commonly consumed alcoholic beverage in the world.
So on National Beer Lovers Day, here is a list of 5 places to have a unique beer experience in town!
A craft brewery is a business that brews their own beers from start to finish in a non-mechanized way. There are 18 craft breweries in Mississippi, with an economic impact of more than $344 million dollars.
2 of those craft breweries are right here in Jackson.
Fertile Ground Brewing | 800 Manship St Suite 101, Jackson, MS
This original laundry service for Baptist Hospital turned brewing company in May of this year. Fertile Ground Brewing proves large scale brewing can be done in our Capitol City. They’ve got signature brews, and a small batch on Sundays that is available until you buy the last pour. You can always check their Facebook page for food trucks, and events.
LD’s Beer Run & Bicentennial Beer Co | 5006 Parkway Dr, Jackson, MS
LD’s is in a league of its own! And with craft brews, macro beers, craft ciders, growlers, kegs, and even craft sodas, they’ve got something for everyone! Owner Larry Voss puts his passion for the business first, and that’s what regulars love the most.
The Cleaners by Pizza Shack | 237 W Government St, Brandon, MS
This vintage dry cleaners turned pizza shack is a staple in historic downtown Brandon. They go beyond your average pizza joint with more than 30 sauces and toppings, and fresh healthy bites... but were here to talk about beer! The Cleaners by Pizza Shack is home to Mississippi’s first self pour beer wall. And even that is on theme as the wall is designed to look like washing machines.
If you want to explore the beer wall, let the waiter know before you head upstairs. From there you get a wrist band, and scan it before you pour. You’re only charged for what you pour in your cup. If you’re feeling adventurous, pour yourself a flight to try 4 different beers. But if you already know what you want, they have different sized cups so you can get right to your perfect pour.
Midtown Depot Art Park and Beer Garden | 116 Livingston St, Jackson, MS
The Midtown Depot Art Park and Beer Garden was developed through a program at Milsaps college. Their mission is to support local entrepreneurs, and the neighborhood of Midtown. Due to the water crisis, Midtown Depot is currently closed. Check their Facebook page for updates on when they will reopen.
The Bulldog | 6111 Ridgewood Rd, Jackson, MS
The Bulldog got its start in New Orleans and how has 4 locations across Louisiana and Mississippi. With more than 50 mostly local beers on tap, their staff is happy to take you on your next beer-venrure. And you can’t enjoy beer all day without some good eats, so be sure to check out their Tex-Mex inspired appetizers on their French Quarter style patio.
