UPDATE: 2 women taken into custody for abusing corpse now charged with murder
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Two women are now facing murder charges after Jackson Police Department says they killed the man they were tasked with taking care of.
Angela Lee, 45, and Angela Smith, 21, were taken into custody at a home on Myers Avenue on Wednesday, April 6.
Officers received a tip the day before the arrests that a man had been killed in Jackson and his body buried on Magnolia Road in Clinton.
Jackson Police responded to that location and found the body of Steve Perry in a shallow grave wrapped in an air mattress with duct tape around it.
The body had bruises all over, done by an extension cord or a blunt object.
Officers recovered an SUV that they say was used to transport the body.
Police say Lee and Smith were Perry’s caretakers.
On Thursday, April 21, an autopsy confirmed Perry’s cause of death as a homicide and an additional charge of murder was added to both women.
Smith and Lee were previously charged with abuse of a corpse, hindering prosecution and violation of a vulnerable adult.
