JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jameal Smith, a 22-year-old man, died Saturday, December 4, 2021, after a shooting at a gas station in the Capital City, according to the Hinds County coroner.
Deputy Chief Deric Hearn with the Jackson Police Department said the victim was shot multiple times while sitting inside a sedan at the Texaco Food Mart on North State Street.
Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart later confirmed Smith’s identity.
Witnesses told WLBT they heard at least 20 gunshots.
Reporter Quentin Smith counted fourteen bullet holes on the vehicle’s passenger side.
Police have not made any arrests nor released a motive in the case.
