PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - An EF-1 tornado touched down in Pearl River County on Wednesday night, confirmed the National Weather Service.

NWS were in Picayune Thursday morning assessing the area and the damage, confirming it was a tornado that swept through the area leaving debris strewn across several roadways and properties. EF-1 tornados are estimated to have a wind speed ranging from 86mph to 110 mph.

Nearly 400 residents were without power Wednesday night but it had mostly been restored by Thursday morning.

No injuries have been reported so far.

The storm also caused a railroad truck in Picayune to close temporarily. Part of the crossing at East Canal Street between Loftin Avenue and the I-59 overpass is closed while crews perform repairs.

The railroad has been contacted about the crossing arms being down at the Goodyear Crossing. They are working on it. Please use another crossing
