MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - Wednesday’s storms turned deadly in Jackson County after a tornado claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman.

Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. say Carolyn Gildersleeve and her husband were driving on Highway 63 around 9pm when the twister touched down. The vehicle was flipped multiple times and the woman was thrown from the car, said EMA Director Earl Etheridge. The woman’s husband did not suffer any major injuries.

The National Weather Service confirmed Thursday that it was an EF-1 tornado. which ranges from 86mph to 110 mph. Etheridge said some houses in the area also received damage.

An EF-1 tornado also touched down in Picayune on Wednesday evening.
