JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Week one of high school football is here as teams set off on their quest to win a championship! To see full scores, click here.

Greenville Christian vs Jackson Prep

There is a new era at Jackson Prep under Tyler Turner, and the Patriots had a tough assignment on Friday night facing off against Greenville Christian.

The Saints looked to carry momentum over into this matchup after defeating the two-time MAIS defending champions, Mississippi Ridgeland Academy, last week.

Greenville Christian did not waste any time as they struck first against the Patriots, with Riley taking it all the way to the house untouched.

Later in the game, Jackson Prep would get their turn to score as William Deez barreled his way through the defense to put a dent somewhat in the Saints’ lead.

After trailing 34-13 at the half, Jackson Prep could do nothing to slow down Greenville Christians’ dominant offense. As a result, the Patriots would fall to the Saints 48-13.

Starkville Academy vs Jackson Academy

Jackson Academy opened up the 2021 campaign with Starkville Academy as Lance Pogue’s Raiders began their quest of returning to the 6A Finals.

The Raiders began the game with a safety in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead. From there, it was an intense defensive battle.

Jackson Academy’s Tate Collins dropped back to pass and find JT Thigpen for a touchdown just before the end of the half. The Raiders would go into halftime, leading 9-0.

In the second half, Jackson Academy dominated, scoring 28 unanswered points. The Raiders defeated the Volunteers 37-0.

Head coach Lance Pogue says the rushing attack and stout defense were the keys to victory tonight but knows there’s still more work to be done heading into this week’s practice.

St. Aloysius vs Park Place

In Pearl, Park Place hosted St. Aloysius as both teams looked to start the season off strong.

Just 30 seconds into the game, Josh Sykes found an open lane after receiving the kick-off and ran into the end zone giving the Crusaders a 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing kick-off, the Flashes would respond with Adam Francisco returning the kick, making the score 7-6. For those doing the math, that’s two kick-offs with two touchdowns.

However, that would not be the end as Braden Stewart would return yet another kick-off for Park Place.

With a score of 14-6, there were no offensive plays ran. It wasn’t until the next kick-off, when it was returned to the five-yard line, that a play was run at the line of scrimmage, resulting in a touchdown.

Park Place would go on to win 40-26.

Clinton Christian vs Hartfield Academy

Hartfield Academy entered the 2021 season with high expectations as the Hawks looked to start off on the right foot against Clinton Christian.

On the first drive of the game, the Hawks’ Cruz Garner found Xavier Davis for their first touchdown of the season. The next Hartfield possession Garner found Davis again for yet another touchdown.

The Hawks looked dominant in this one as they would go on to defeat Clinton Christian 49-7.
