Fire engulfs Jackson apartment complex on Manhattan Road
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Part of a Jackson apartment complex was consumed in flames Thursday afternoon.
It occurred at the Pebble Creek Apartments on Manhattan Road.
Residents told WLBT that the fire started in one apartment but because of low water pressure in a nearby fire hydrant, the fire continued to spread.
Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Armon said the fire began in the middle part of an apartment complex and fanned out from there.
In all, six units sustained major damage.
“They couldn’t get no water to put the fire out. And then the wind got up under it, it was a wrap,” said Marcus Phillips. “It looked like 45 minutes before the water even, you know, they could even get enough water to even try to get on it.”
Armon said he doesn’t believe any water pressure problems contributed to their ability to fight the fire.
“I can say I’m constantly talking with my firefighters and seeing what, you know, what happened, and that type of thing, but I haven’t heard any reports of a water issue,” Armon said.
Armon said no one was injured or killed in the ordeal.
A firefighter on the scene told WLBT part of the reason for that was because a Jackson firefighter lived in the complex and alerted people to the fire once it began.
