JACKSON, Miss. - The Lady Tigers cruised to a convincing 66-31 victory against Alcorn State Saturday afternoon, a part of the home opener at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
In the first quarter of play, Jackson State opened up to a 20-5 lead within the first eight minutes of play. Jackson State led 26-9 at the end of the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, the Lady Tigers held a 34-13 advantage and closed the half with a 17-point lead, 36-19.
Jackson State outscored Alcorn 12-7 in the third quarter and 18-5 in the fourth quarter to ultimately hand Alcorn State the loss.
After pulling in national honors last week, Ameshya Williams once again pasted the Lady Tigers, finishing with 22 points, 12 rebounds, five blocked shots, and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. It was her fifth double-double of the season.
Dayzsha Rogan finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. She also led the Lady Tigers with two three-pointers made (2-for-4) and collected four assists. Cherelle Jones and Jariyah Covington each tallied six points in the contest. As a team, Jackson State was 29-for-59 from the field and 12-of-18 from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers had 38 points in the paint and were provided 20 points off the bench.
With the win, Jackson State improves to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the SWAC. The Lady Tigers return to the court Monday versus Southern at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
