JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS) wants people involved in riots at the U.S. Capitol to be labeled as domestic terrorists.

Thompson, who is the Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released a statement Thursday calling on TSA and the FBI to add those involved in the unrest at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to be added to the no-fly list.

Earlier in the day Thursday, President-elect Joe Biden condemned the acts, urging Americans to not refer to them as “protests.”

Biden also described the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday as “domestic terrorists” and assailed the Republican president for inciting the siege.

“The past four years we’ve had a president who’s made his contempt for our democracy, our Constitution, the rule of law, clear in everything he has done,” Biden said, vowing a dramatic shift in his administration. “More than anything, we need to restore the honor, the integrity, the independence of the Department of Justice that’s been so badly damaged.”

Thompson says those involved should not be allowed to fly because of the danger they pose.

Two Mississippians are among those who were arrested amid the unrest. Hundreds of people were arrested by the Metropolitan Police.
