JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - In a Thursday tweet, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported that its website was down due to “technical problems.”
The news comes a day after the state began allowing those 75 and older to start scheduling appointments online to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
However, officials with the agency said the site did not go down as a result of people visiting it to sign up.
“Our website has been down off and on today due to technical difficulties,” said Elizabeth Grey, division director for emergency preparedness communications.
While the website was not in service, she said seniors could still sign up for vaccinations via an external link, covidvaccine.umc.edu.
Individuals cannot sign up for the shot via MSDH’s site but can be directed to the correct website by clicking a link there.
“Our website just has a link to the vaccine scheduler,” she said.
Grey didn’t say what technical difficulties caused the site to go down but said she would look into it.
The agency announced their website was down late Thursday morning. The site was inoperative for at least three hours but was back up shortly before 3 p.m. However, after 5 p.m., it was down again.
In the department’s tweet, officials said they are “working to bring (the website) back online as quickly as possible.”
