Drew Brees and Taysom Hill deliver 2-seed for the Saints in the playoffs

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - With the lack of running backs due to COVID protocols, it was the quarterbacks that stepped up for the Saints in Carolina.
Three Drew Brees touchdown passes, and a touchdown run by Taysom Hill, helped deliver the Saints (12-4) a playoff 2-seed by beating the Panthers, 33-7.
The Saints will host the Chicago Bears on “Wild Card Weekend” of the playoffs. The game will be Sunday at 3:40 p.m.
The entire running back room was out for the game after Alvin Kamara tested positive for COVID. The rest of the position group was in contact with Kamara, so they had to sit out as well.
Brees finished the game going 22-of-31 passing, 201 yards, and three touchdown passes.
The Saints offense came out firing in this contest from the jump. Brees went 4-of-4 passing on the opening drive, finishing with a touchdown connection to Jared Cook covering 18 yards.
In the second quarter, Brees connected with Emmanuel Sanders on an 8-yard connection for a score. Wil Lutz missed the extra points, but it still gave the Saints the edge, 13-7.
Touchdown pass No. 3 for Brees came courtesy of a 11-yard hookup with Austin Carr.
Brees wasn’t the only quarterback for the Saints getting in some work. Backup quarterback, Taysom Hill, found the end zone on a 3-yard run.
The defense intercepted former Saint, Teddy Bridgewater, three times in the contest. Malcolm Jenkins, Grant Haley, and Marshon Lattimore all registered picks.
