Cars blocking traffic on I-55 goes viral, one arrest made by JPD
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson Police Department made an arrest after a video went viral on social media that shows cars doing donuts and blocking traffic on I-55 in Jackson Friday night.
The suspect is a teenager and their name has not been released.
“If you are in that video, I will suggest you turn yourself in,” Police Chief James Davis said.
According to the chief, the incident happened around 11 o’clock Friday night and lasted for an hour. Traffic was so backed up that it prevented police from being able to respond in a timely manner.
“We had to work our way up to where they were. They got in their car and they drove off once they saw the blue lights, and we have been plagued with that throughout the year.”
In the video (disclaimer: video contains explicit language), multiple cars appeared to stop traffic as several drivers spun around in circles on the interstate.
People are also seen standing dangerously close and seem to be recording on their cell phones as the drivers attempt the stunts. The location shown on the video is I-55 in Jackson as St. Dominic Hospital is seen in the background.
The video was shared over 5,000 times.
The video is captioned:
“Don’t come 55 North

We in traffic every Sunday.”
Chief James Davis said that JPD will not tolerate the actions of the people who participated in shutting down I-55. They plan on using the video to find everyone involved and press charges.
“We’re going to charge you with drag racing in the public, shutting down the interstate. We’re going to charge you with obstructing traffic. We’re going to charge you with reckless and careless driving, and we’re going to charge you with disorderly conduct and we’re going to pursue those charges with the courts.”
Each crime that violators could be charged with carries a fine up to $1,000 and could spend up to six months behind bars.
