BRANDON, Miss. (WLBT) - With the expected rush on COVID vaccinations in the coming months pharmacies are recruiting more manpower to administer the doses.
This week CVS put out this ad asking pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and nurses to apply with them.
They’re also asking for others with no medical training to apply to help serve their communities and end the pandemic.
Several local pharmacies we talked to are also planning to have the shots available in the coming months.
Many are in the application process with the FDA at this time.
Jeremy Ward of Polk’s Discount Drugs in Brandon said, “Like all other vaccinations, we’re in the process of getting approved to do so. In order to do a COVID-19 vaccine we’re having to get registered with the FDA then, they have to approve each site that’s going to administer those vaccines.”
Polk’s Discount Drug in Brandon tells us they hope to have the vaccine in by mid January to February.
Their version of the drug will be made by the company Maderna.
There’s also still uncertainty about who will qualify to get the shots first.
Next week, state officials will be giving initial doses to frontline healthcare providers and people in long term care facilities.
