LAUDERDALE CO., Miss. (WLBT) - Southeast Lauderdale High School is mourning the loss of head football coach Calvin Hampton.

Hampton was killed in a crash on Highway 19 on Wednesday afternoon, WTOK reports.

An 18-wheeler collided with Hampton’s vehicle near 1 p.m. near the intersection of Long Creek Road.

The Meridian Public School District Family is saddened to hear the news about the sudden passing of Calvin Hampton, a 1998 graduate of Meridian High and former MHS Head Football Coach. During his time as a Wildcat, Coach Hampton impacted many lives of the players and students he came in contact with. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the Southeast and Lauderdale County School District community during this tragic time.
