MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss. (WMC) - A Marshall County deputy was rushed to a Memphis hospital Monday after an encounter with a stolen vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was trying to stop two suspects in the stolen vehicle on Highway 22 around 12:40 p.m.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office says the suspects ran over the deputy.
The deputy was taken to Regional One in Memphis in serious condition.
Robert Darnell Watkins, of Collierville, was arrested for attempted murder, fleeing and theft-related charges.
Watkins’ passenger was released without charges.
Watkins is being taken to DeSoto County Detention Facility, an alternative jail site outside of Marshall County as is routine in situations like this.
