CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) - A driver was killed and three others were injured in a high-speed crash in Clinton.

The crash happened on Highway 80 near Hampstead Boulevard in Clinton on Friday morning.

The driver has been identified as 40-year-old Jacklyn “Jackie” Mitchell of Jackson.

Clinton police said before the accident, the dark grey sedan Mitchell was driving was pulled over for not having a license plate. She sped away when the officer began walking to her vehicle. It was later confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.

According to witnesses, the driver ran the red light at Hampstead Boulevard, causing the accident. Three other people were also injured, one critically.

Police said Mitchell had an extensive criminal background, including 16 felonies. She was on active probation through the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The two other passengers who were in the vehicle with Mitchell will not face charges in this incident, but Clinton police said they will pass their information along to the Jackson Police Department for their continued investigation into the auto-theft.
