CANTON, Miss. (WLBT) - A gas station clerk was shot in the face during a robbery Thursday morning, according to Police Chief Otha Brown.

The incident happened at the Jasco Convenience Store on West Peace Street around 4 a.m.

Chief Brown said the clerk was shot in the cheek. The victim is expected to survive.

The suspect has not yet been identified, but authorities have released surveillance video.

You can see the man exiting a silver four door sedan and walking into the store. The robber goes behind the counter, grabs an unknown amount of cash, then flees.

He later comes out with a black bag in hand.

Police are hoping the public can help identify the man responsible.

Lt. Terrance Ware of the Canton police department said, “If anyone was around and They probably saw a silver or grey sedan if they saw it got a tag or anything like that on that particular vehicle or direction of travel, they can give us a call.”

Canton police are asking anyone who may have been in the area and saw something, or can identify the suspect in the video to call them, or call in a tip to Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers.
