Several families displaced after fire breaks out at Ridgeland Ranch Apartments
RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) - A fire broke out Sunday afternoon at Ridgeland Ranch Apartments.
Fire crews rushed to the scene on County Line Road to find multiple apartments on fire.
“Oh Lord, I have never seen anything like it,” resident Jessica Archie said.
“I was actually downstairs cooking and my brother had actually come and said to me, ‘it’s on fire,’ and I thought he was talking about ours, but I looked at the window and it was actually across the street. I heard wires popping,” Tytiana Moody said.
Firefighters from Madison and Ridgeland were working together to put out the blaze.
Ridgeland High student Evan Shepard said when his dad told him about the fire, he sprang into action to help his neighbors.
“I took off my shoes and ran as fast as I could around here not even thinking about the fire,” Shepard said. “I ran straight in there, knocked on the doors, I got everybody out. We kicked in the window over here and went upstairs and no one was in there, luckily.”
Fire officials said nobody was injured. But at least eight units were destroyed, leaving several families displaced.
Investigators are still working to learn the cause.
“Right now, I cannot tell you how it started,” Fire Marshal Matt Bailey said. “It’s going to take a little while; we’re going to look at it when it’s safe to look at it. We will come back in, we will call the state fire marshal’s office and we will look through it if we can determine what caused it.”
