MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says two deputies were injured in a shooting Wednesday afternoon near South Memphis and the suspect was killed.

According to SCSO, it happened around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Haven Circle near Elvis Presley Boulevard and I-240. SCSO spokesman Capt. Anthony Buckner says the deputies confronted the suspect inside the home and shots were fired.

One deputy was shot and went to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. A second deputy was injured and went to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office confirm one deputy has been released and the other is now listed in non-critical condition.

Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings says deputies and police officers were at the home executing a search warrant as part of the Metro Gang Unit.

Rallings says the first deputy was shot multiple times, adding that he was wearing a bulletproof vest. It’s not yet clear if the deputy will need surgery but Rallings says he’s in good spirits.

The other deputy is believed to have been bitten by a dog at the scene.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
