Suspect’s charges upgraded to murder after woman intentionally hit by car in 2017 dies

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Charges have been upgraded to murder for a woman accused of hitting another woman with her car in 2017.

29-year-old Brittany Carter was charged with aggravated assault in the death of 25-year-old Chornell Mayfield after a 2017 incident on Overstreet Avenue where police say Carter intentionally hit Mayfield with her car.

Mayfield suffered life-threatening injuries and remain hospitalized until recently when she died.

Carter’s charges have now been upgraded to murder.

Carter appeared in court Tuesday morning for her initial hearing and was denied bond.

This investigation is ongoing.
