RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT) - A Ridgeland man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the rape of 12-year-old girl in 2018.

Valentin Ariosto Alfronso-Arguello was arrested in August of last year after the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the victim’s mother that her daughter had been forced to have sex with him.

Deputies learned that the night before, the 12-year-old and her family had been dining at a restaurant in Ridgeland where Alfronso-Arguello worked. He reportedly followed the young girl into the bathroom and coerced her into giving him her phone number and address.

The mother told police she woke up around 3:00 am the next morning to find her daughter’s light on in her bedroom, but could not find her in the house. She opened the front door and saw her daughter coming into the house and a pick-up truck speeding away.

When questioned later in the day, the victim admitted that Alfronso-Arguello started texting her when his shift ended and said he wanted to see her.

The victim told her father that Alfronso-Arguello was already on his way to her house when he texted her. When he pulled up, she got into the truck with him where he forced her to have sex with him after she repeatedly said no. He held her down and forced himself onto her.

The victim was interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center and her story was consistent with what she told the nurses at the hospital and her father.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested Alfronso-Arguello who then signed a Waiver of Rights and provided law enforcement with a statement admitting to having sex with the victim.

Law enforcement were also able to recover his cell phone, where they found text messages to and from the victim that supported the victim’s timeline and statement.

Eight years of Alfronso-Arguello’s 20 year sentence will be suspended and he will have to serve the remaining 12 years day-for-day in prison. He will also be required to register with the Mississippi Sexual Offender Registry and serve five years of supervised probation.
