Second round suspended at NCAA Women’s Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (WLBT) - The second round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships was suspended on Saturday due to inclement weather and heavy rains that moved through the area of Blessings Golf Club.

The first wave of teams started out in the morning before play was halted at 12:15 p.m. The weather never let up and ultimately the day was called around 5 p.m.

12 of the 24 teams did not start their second rounds.

Second round play will resume Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with Saturday's morning wave resuming play and the afternoon teams going off Nos. 1 and 10.

The Rebels will get their round two started with tee times starting at 11:06 a.m. Ole Miss will be paired with San Jose State and Purdue.

The stroke play portion of the tournament will be shortened from 72 to 54 holes. All 24 teams and 12 individuals will compete again on Monday. The stroke play portion of the championship will end with the individual medalist being determined following the 54 holes.

The field will then be cut to the top eight teams which advance to the match play quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Rebels will begin the second round tied for 12th as a team, having not played a single hole on Saturday. Kennedy Swann and Ellen Hutchinson-Kay remained in the top-25 individually.
