JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Jackson police are investigating three shootings that have happened since noon, one is deadly.
Jackson police detectives are investigating three shootings that all took place within three hours. Just before 12:30, officers responded to the 1100 block of Shalimar Drive.
A 49-year-old black man wounded in that shooting is now listed in critical condition. Police say multiple cars were damaged.
Within minutes, police were called to the 1300 block of Dansby Street, after a woman arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.
Then around 3:30 p.m. a woman who lives on the Millsaps Ave said she saw an alleged gunmen, in connection to another shooting run through her yard and then run off.
“Two guys walked up to the door, that’s when I start hearing some shooting. Then one ran up the street, one ran behind the house."
The third shooting in the 300 block of Millsaps Avenue turned into Jackson's 40th homicide of 2019.
34-year-old Bobby Ward was shot multiple times. He later died from his injuries.
His family was at the scene and were vocal on his shooting.
“I don’t know what happened, all I know that they called and said he had been shot. And when we get out here the police said he had been shot like three times. They said he opened the door. I don’t know what happened, but all this senseless killing it should be cut out,” said Doris Ward.
Investigators later learned that an unknown black male attempted to enter Ward’s home where they fought.
Several shots were fired shortly thereafter.
The individual took off on foot and remains at large.
The exact motive for this latest homicide is not know.
