JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - 25 year old Zebulum James remains in the Madison County Detention Center. He is charged with killing two women in November, 2015.
We confirmed with the Madison County District Attorney’s office that James was ordered to the State Hospital at Whitfield by the Circuit Court because he is not mentally competent to stand trial. He is still on a waiting list for a bed. A judge ordered a mental evaluation in 2016.
Police say James shot and killed one victim at the Shell gas station on Watkins Drive in Jackson. The second woman was killed as she walked from the Drury Inn to a restaurant in Ridgeland.
James was also accused of shooting at a Jatran bus, firing into a house and running over a man with his car. His family has said he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
