HOLMES COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - An assistant principal in Holmes County has been charged with statutory rape after he was caught having sex with an underage teenage female student at his home in Greenwood.
According to Leflore County Sheriff’s Department, 49-year-old Dyana Thomas is being held at the Leflore County Jail with a $500,000 bond.
Thomas was arrested on Friday, May 10 on Sunset Blvd. in Greenwood, Alabama. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for some time next week.
The Holmes County School District released the following statement:
“The safety and well-being of students is always our highest priority. We have completed our investigation and it has been turned over to law enforcement. This is a personnel matter and will be handled accordingly.”
In August of 2014, a complaint was filed against Thomas in west Alabama where he was formerly principal at Greensboro High School.
After a grand jury reviewed the complaint and on August 6, 2014 they decided there was probable cause to believe Thomas may have violated the ethics law.
The complaint involved whether Thomas used his school position for personal gain.
Thomas also pleaded guilty to mail fraud in 2007 involving his position as principal of Greene County High School and got five years probation. At the time, Thomas was also a member of the Sumter County School Board.
